Faculty Fellow

FACULTY FELLOW
Center for Experimental Humanities
ARTS AND SCIENCE

New York University

The Center for Experimental Humanities, a master’s program housed in the Graduate School of Arts and Science at New York University, invites applications for two Faculty Fellow positions. This newly-established center currently offers classes on a diverse body of topics – including nothingness, the 1990s, underworlds, anti-colonial pedagogy, bad women, John Berger, the curatorial, insomnia, David Bowie – that not only refuse the separation of creativity and criticality, but contribute to a reimagining of disciplinary boundaries, epistemic paradigms, and intellectual production.

We seek outstanding interdisciplinary scholars to join us, public-facing intellectuals or artistic practitioners whose work does not neatly align with traditional disciplines, who are passionate about their idiosyncratic interests and can convey them in their teaching, and who are eager to incorporate the resources of the university and the city into the classroom.

Areas of interest may include, span, or exceed the fields of design, gender and sexuality studies, creative and (non)fiction writing, ecocriticism, technology and infrastructural studies, art and activism, urban studies, global critical theory, sound studies, and visual culture. Candidates must be committed to interdisciplinary scholarship and practice, an international perspective on pedagogy and cultural production, and excellence in teaching. We welcome applicants who have received the Ph.D. no longer ago than August 31, 2013.

Applications must include:

  • a cover letter
  • curriculum vitae
  • a 20- to 30-page writing sample
  • sample syllabi for two dream classes
  • three letters of recommendation.

The search committee will begin reviewing applications on March 1, 2018 and will continue until the position is filled. The initial appointments will be for one year beginning September 1, 2018, pending budgetary and administrative approval, renewable annually for a maximum of three years.
