Assistant Professor or untenured Associate Professor, Chemical Engineering, Stanford University

Department of Department of Chemical Engineering

Stanford University

The Department of Chemical Engineering at Stanford University seeks applicants for a tenure track appointment at the Assistant Professor or untenured Associate Professor level. Applicants are expected to have earned a Ph.D. degree in chemical engineering or a related discipline.

There are several broad areas of interest. Experimental and computational/theoretical research programs in climate and sustainability are encouraged, including environmental or atmospheric studies, carbon capture and sequestration, separation science, surface reactivity and catalysis, fuel cells, solar and renewable energy, and batteries and energy storage. Research in biochemical engineering is encouraged, including biomolecular, cellular, and bioprocess engineering. Finally, research programs addressing molecular transport processes and mechanics, soft materials physics and chemistry, and computation and simulation are encouraged. In general, we prioritize the overall originality and promise of the candidate’s work rather than the sub-area of specialization. Researchers interested in environmental sciences, energy sciences, and applied life sciences are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach at the graduate and undergraduate level, develop advanced graduate courses in a research specialty, and develop a world-class research program emphasizing the fundamental physical, chemical, or biological aspects of chemical engineering science. Applicants should seek a stimulating interdisciplinary environment to pursue teaching and research. We anticipate that the faculty member will contribute to and develop leadership roles and interactions among faculty not only in Chemical Engineering but also in Electrical, Mechanical, and Materials Science and Engineering in the School of Engineering. Furthermore, we anticipate involvement in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Statistics, and Applied Physics in the School of Humanities and Sciences; in the Doerr School of Sustainability, as well as Civil and Environmental Engineering located in the Schools of Engineering and of Sustainability; in the School of Medicine, as well as Bioengineering located in the Schools of Engineering and of Medicine; and at the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory.

The Chemical Engineering Department, School of Engineering, and Stanford University value faculty who are committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Candidates may optionally include as part of their research or teaching statement a brief discussion of how their work will further these ideals.

Applicants should submit a 1-page cover letter, CV (including research accomplishments, teaching experience, and publications), detailed research (no more than 5-pages), and teaching plan (1-page), 1-page diversity statement (recommended), and at least three (3) references. Applications are due by November 1, 2022, but we will continue to accept applications until the position is filled. Please apply online at https://facultypositions.stanford.edu/en-us/listing/.
