Associate Chief Information Officer

Montana State University (MSU) invites nominations and applications for an associate chief information officer. Reporting directly to the vice president for university information technology/chief information officer, this position provides strategic, operational, and technical leadership in support of MSU’s IT Community. This key leadership role oversees and guides the planning, implementation, support, and ongoing assessment of MSU’s technical vision and serves as a point of contact through the IT strategic leaders for colleges and departments in identifying the specific IT strategies and support required for each unit. This position guides our enterprise application environment and collaborates and coordinates across MSU and the Montana University System in support of system strategic priorities.

The successful candidate will be an experienced IT leader who possesses proven analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; excellent organizational and conflict management skills as a team player; and personal integrity, vision, and energy. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to four major areas of technology leadership: enterprise services leadership and project management, IT community leadership and support, technical leadership and architecture, and strategic planning.

Required Qualifications and Abilities

  1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or closely related field, plus recent progressive management experience in an IT field, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education to effectively perform the required job functions.
  2. Demonstrated ability to translate business and technical needs into functional, technical requirements and manage large scale efforts across multiple remote locations.
  3. Demonstrated understanding of Enterprise applications and ERP systems, end-user support, and project management experience.
  4. Demonstrated experience managing cross-functional teams to meet multiple location objectives.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of Performance Management, including remote employees, IT Change Management, and IT Service Management best practices.

Preferred Qualifications and Abilities

  1. Recent experience overseeing large-scale ERP projects or other enterprise software development.
  2. Demonstrated customer service and relationship management experience in higher-education or large enterprise environments.
  3. Master’s degree or higher educational background in technology or related fields.
  4. Demonstrated experience developing and supporting strategic plans and technical roadmaps.

Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
