About the University: 

California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) opened in 2002 as the newest campus in the California State University system. About the Program: 

The John Spoor Broome Library team is comprised of 11 librarians and 11 staff members. A critical part of the CSUCI experience, the Library supports the learning and research communities of our diverse campus through its collections, and robust information literacy program. The Broome Library is prized by faculty and students alike for its careful attention to physical space, collections, special programming, and services such as equipment lending. The Library’s commitment to comprehensive reference service, active learning pedagogy, multicultural programming, and range of methods for gathering student input reflect its alignment with and support of the campus’s four mission centers. Furthermore, the integration of information literacy standards into the campus General Education learning outcomes creates an effective foundation for its core educational mission.

About the Position: 

The Electronic Resources Management Librarian oversees the lifecycle of the Broome Library’s electronic resources, including licensing, discoverability, access and accessibility, administration and support, operating under the day-to-day supervision of the Head of Collections & Resource Management, and works closely with a supportive team including a Systems Librarian, a Library Programmer, and an Acquisitions Specialist.

This position develops, recommends, and implements and maintains an operational management strategy for the Library’s electronic resources. The Electronic Resources Management Librarian monitors and manages the entire complex life cycles of e-serials, e-books, databases, and streaming video, and applies best practices for discoverability and accessibility of Library resources to improve electronic resource access, usability and accessibility. The position works collaboratively with Library faculty and staff, vendors, and campus IT Services to ensure seamless, and uninterrupted access to, and discovery of, the Library’s electronic resources.

Minimum Degree Requirements:

ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library Science/Information Science (or equivalent foreign degree) by start date.

Required Qualifications:

• 1-2 years of professional library experience in ERM, including experience with vendors and publishers, and licenses, and experience with other ERM-related applications.
• Minimum of 1-2 two years of experience with a unified resource management system(s), or integrated library system(s), preferably Alma, Primo Central Discovery Index and Primo/Primo VE.
• Demonstrated understanding of relevant standards and practices, such as OpenURL, COUNTER, and MARC.
• Demonstrated technical aptitude and ability to learn new programs as necessary.
• Knowledge of information technology trends that demonstrates understanding of the impact of technology in academic libraries.
• Evidence of ability to work independently and collaboratively in a diverse environment, prioritizing work to ensure that departmental and Library goals are realized per stated specifications.
• Demonstrated effective organizational and analytical skills, proven problem solving ability, flexibility, and ability to meet deadlines successfully in a complex, dynamic, and diverse environment with competing demands.
• Evidence of ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

• In-depth experience with Alma, Primo Central Discovery Index and Primo/Primo VE.
• Working knowledge of relational database management systems, such as Oracle, and experience using and creating SQLs, or other comparable programming language(s).
• Experience providing leadership in best ERM practices in managing access to digital content, databases, e-books, e-journals, and streaming media licensing.
• Experience working with library users of diverse ages, as well as from various socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
• Experience teaching library instruction to a diverse student body.
• Experience providing reference services to a diverse population.
• Dedication to research and scholarship in the field of library and information sciences.
• Demonstrated commitment to service excellence to a diverse community including a focus on first-generation, BIPOC, and other historically marginalized groups.

Responsibilities:

• Oversees management of the Library’s electronic resources in Ex Libris Alma/Primo system, including but not limited to, providing access, administration, and support.
• Manages lifecycle of electronic resources including databases, e-books, e-journals, and streaming media in a local and consortial environment.
• Contributes to, and maintains, policies and best practices related to ERM in collaboration with campus stakeholders.
• Maintains close working relationships with content providers, vendors, and campus and CSU consortial partners.
• Provides support for licensing of Library’s electronic resources, such as databases, e-books, e-journals, and streaming media.
• Oversees reporting and troubleshooting of electronic resources in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
• Develops, manages, and documents workflows for processing locally and consortium-purchased e-resources, and ensure workflows are coordinated with other relevant units.
• Evidences ability to learn technical skills that enhance understanding and administration of electronic resources.
• Serves as a library liaison with the Chancellor’s Office, Ex Libris, and CSU Library groups.
• Provides reference and instruction services to a diverse student body as needed.
• Collaborates with librarians and university partners to integrate library collections and services across the curriculum.
• Serves on library and university committees and task forces.
• Pursues scholarship as expected of a tenure-track librarian.

This is an open rank position. Salary is commensurate with knowledge, skills, and experience. The University offers excellent fringe benefits.
