The Department of Otorhinolaryngology: Head and Neck Surgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Associate Professor position in the tenure track. Expertise is required in the specific area of systems neuroscience with a focus on identifying the neural correlates of hearing function or dysfunction with an emphasis on identifying the causal relationships between neural activity in individual neurons and/or circuits and learning or behavior. Particular areas of interest include computational neuroscience and translational approaches. Applicants must have an M.D. or Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree.

Teaching responsibilities may include training of graduate students and post-doctoral investigators.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include building an independent research program in basic and/or translational studies in auditory neuroscience. Scholarship should include peer-reviewed publications and presentations of work at scientific meetings and other venues. The selected candidate will be expected to develop interactions with investigators not only in the department, but within the greater neuroscience community in the Perelman School of Medicine (e.g. the Computational Neuroscience Institute) and across the University campus. Ideally, the candidate should have the vision and ability to effectively interact with clinicians to establish and foster translational research programs within their research discipline.

The ideal candidate should be an established mid-level investigator with an exceptional record of research achievement demonstrating a trajectory for success in academic medicine. Key selection criteria will be in research excellence and originality of science. There is opportunity for a secondary appointment in a basic science department for the successful candidate.
