The Department of Anthropology and the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (Penn Museum) at the University of Pennsylvania invite applications for a tenured/tenure-track faculty position and Museum curatorship beginning in the 2022-23 academic year. We will consider applications from candidates of all ranks for this position. The successful candidate should have expertise in biological anthropology and/or bioarchaeology involving the analysis of human remains, with a preference for scholars having a record of advocacy for Black and Indigenous communities and/or experience dealing with repatriation issues.

In the Department of Anthropology (School of Arts & Sciences), the candidate's research should articulate with existing departmental faculty expertise in human biology, anthropological genetics, and palynology, while also contributing to departmental goals of innovative and collaborative research. We are open to scholars using established methods of osteological analysis, as well as those employing newer chemical, genetic, and bioarchaeological methods such as mass spectrometry, proteomics, ancient DNA, and stable isotope analysis for their research projects. Teaching responsibilities will include both undergraduate courses and advanced classes in the area of research specialization, with a two-course load per year. The candidate will also participate in the mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students working in these areas.

In the Penn Museum, the candidate will serve in the position of Curator of the Physical Anthropology Section, which encompasses both the collections of the Section and research and publication activities related to the collections undertaken by those associated with the Section. The Curator will also advise the Museum's senior leadership on issues related to the Section's collection and research endeavors, as well as participate on the Penn Museum's repatriation committees. The candidate will further have opportunities to work with colleagues in the Center for the Analysis of Archaeological Materials (CAAM) in course instruction and the development of projects involving community collaboration.
