The Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology & Informatics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor position in either the non-tenure clinician educator track or the tenure track. Expertise is required in the specific area of biomedical informatics methods development and applications, with the ability to establish oneself as a research leader in their area of specialization. Relevant areas include bioinformatics, translational bioinformatics, clinical informatics, clinical research informatics, consumer health informatics, and public health informatics. Candidates with experience in AI, machine learning and applications to domains such as cheminformatics, computational/predictive toxicology, systems pharmacology and translational therapeutics are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree and have completed postdoctoral training.

Teaching responsibilities may include participation in biomedical informatics and computational biology PhD and MS training programs, as well as teaching informatics and data science courses in biomedical graduate programs. Candidates are expected to have a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring.

Clinical responsibilities may include activities in the faculty member's clinical specialty (if relevant).

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include variations based upon faculty track. Clinician Educator track faculty will typically be focused on collaborative research and scholarship as co-investigators. Tenure track faculty will be principal investigators of extramurally funded research projects and publish in peer-reviewed journals.

The 10 primary faculty of the Division of Informatics have strengths that span the development, evaluation, and application of cutting-edge informatics methods, approaches, and software that impact the biomedical sciences and healthcare. The Informatics Division is part of a large department, with dozens of highly collaborative faculty from biostatistics and epidemiology. The successful candidate may be eligible for a secondary appointment in other departments and can also become a member of the Institute for Biomedical Informatics (IBI) and the Center for Excellence in Environmental Toxicology (CEET). Established in 2015 to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, the IBI comprises 70+ laboratories with a wide range of biomedical and clinical research focuses. Launched in 2005, CEET receives grant support from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and is one of only twenty designated Environmental Health Sciences Core Centers in the nation.
