Technology Services provides systems engineering, operations, networking, telecommunications, and collaboration services for use by the global University community.

Job Description

Participates in engineering efforts with ISC Technology Services colleagues to support Unified Communications Services. Develops software scripts to accomplish various tasks; performs systems and services monitoring; maintenance of existing UC services. Works with campus Local Support Providers and the central ISC Client Care team on rollout of UC ISC services. Participates in on-call rotation providing support during non-business hours.

Unified Communication Engineer
  • Provides troubleshooting in support for the PennFlex Phone enterprise voice service and other UC services including Contact Center, E911, E-Fax and service security.
  • Evaluates new network service technologies; and tests software and implements feature release plans.
  • The UC Engineer will assist other Sr. Engineers to set standards and establish procedures and may be called upon to work closely with vendors to help to debug software for distribution.


Senior Unified Communication Engineer
  • Provides expert-level troubleshooting in support for the PennFlex Phone enterprise voice, service architectures for other UC services including Contact Center, E911, E-Fax and service security.
  • Identifies new network service technologies; and maintains regular contact with UC vendors on software and feature release planning.
  • The Senior UC Engineer will help set standards and establish procedures and may be called upon to work closely with vendors to help to debug software for distribution, help peer institutions by explaining our architecture and implementation of services and give conference seminars.


QUALIFICATIONS Unified Communications Engineer:

A Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Computer Science or related Engineering field, with a minimum of 2 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. At least 3 years of combined network engineering and information technology experience in design and implementation of communication networks and infrastructure strongly desired.

QUALIFICATIONS Unified Communications Engineer Sr:

A Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Computer Science or related Engineering field, with 3 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. At least 4, preferably 5, years of combined network engineering and information technology experience in design and implementation of communication networks and infrastructure. Expert level experience with the below required qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
  • Strong customer service orientation, attention to detail, and written/verbal communication skill.
  • Strong knowledge of support processes around IT support organizations to route and resolve technical problems and translate highly technical requirements into easily understandable service level terms.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and to negotiate those priorities with internal and external customers.
  • Knowledge of core Unified Communications technologies including but not limited to: IP Voice, dial plans/permissions, PRI, SIP trunking, call routing, PSTN gateway routers, telephony network design, and survivable telephony/failover
  • Strong experience with scripting languages (UNIX/Linus Shell, Perl, Python, JavaScript, PHP etc.)
  • Candidate working knowledge of core IP telephony protocols, such as H.323 (and its subcomponents such as H.225, H.245, etc.), SIP authentication, authorization, federation, multi-factor authentication, vulnerability assessment / remediation, signing, and encryption.
  • Ability to work across multiple interdisciplinary areas and with many different personalities and areas of expertise.
  • Ability to maintain vendor relationships and to communicate technical requirements and priorities to help drive feature requests.
