The Managing Director of StarLab George Washington Carver Science Park Program develops, implements, and manages systems and processes related to administrative, financial, operational, and other contractual requirements associated with the StarLab project. This includes strategic and tactical planning activities, monitoring and tracking of programmatic progress, financial management, budget preparation, facilities support, human resources, and general administration and activity planning.  Reporting directly to the Principal Investigator, the Managing Director serves as a primary interface between internal and external collaborators including scientific researchers, technical staff, policymakers, educational and outreach personnel, and corporate executives.

Ohio State’s role in the StarLab project involves developing and coordinating university research to take place aboard the StarLab GWC Science Park as well as serving as a research gateway and catalyst for other potential users around the globe through creation of an academic consortium and broader affiliation network. Finally, Ohio State will host and operate the ground-based ‘control lab’ for agricultural and other research tied to the StarLab GWC Science Park.

To successfully and sustainably meet these requirements, the Managing Director will be responsible for working with a diverse group of stakeholders to craft and grow the requisite partnership and collaborative structures as well as to develop sustainable business models for their ongoing operation. Successful candidates will be self-motivated and expected to exercise significant independent judgement. Strong attention to detail, a high degree of resourcefulness, and exceptional critical analysis, problem solving, and decision-making skills are essential.

Required Qualifications:

Master's Level Degree in Business, Engineering, Agricultural Science or equivalent education/experience or related field plus a minimum of 5 years of experience in higher education.

Doctorate Degree in Business, Engineering, Agricultural Science

Essential Duties:

40% - Develop, implement, and manage systems and processes related to administrative, financial, operational, and other contractual requirements associated with the StarLab project; Lead strategic and tactical planning activities; Monitor and report programmatic progress; Hire and supervise staff; Manage all financial and budgetary operations.

30% - Design, implement, manage, and grow partnership and alliance structures, including associated business models for their sustainable operation beyond the project period.

30% - Serve as primary interface between the GWC Space Park Program and internal and external collaborators and stakeholders; Manage internal and external communications and outreach activities.

Additional Information:

The target hiring range for this position is $ $99,000 - $133,000 per year.
