The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the tenure track. Applicants must have an M.D and/or Ph.D or equivalent degree.

Teaching responsibilities may include mentoring of graduate and medical students which are an integral component of this position.

Clinical responsibilities may include providing essential contributions to the clinical programs of the department, including substantial teaching and/or independent contributions to clinical research programs.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include skills in engineering, wet bench laboratory work related to diagnostics, biomarker discovery, and/or computational approaches to diagnostics across biologic and diagnostic domains. The successful candidate is expected to develop an independent, externally funded research program that aligns with our institutional efforts to develop clinically actionable insights, diagnostics, computational methods, and data analytics to improve the diagnosis of patients with a wide variety of diseases. Individuals with research programs focused on aspects of diagnostics (including but not limited to platform development, machine learning, analysis and integration of multi-omic data) are encouraged to apply.

The primary faculty appointment will be in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine; however, there are opportunities to be aligned with appropriate Centers and Institutes at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine (such as the Institute for Immunology, the Center for Cellular Immunotherapies, and the Penn Center for Precision Medicine) and with other Schools in the University of Pennsylvania (examples include Bioengineering, Computer and Information Science).
