Visiting Lecturer: Human Communication

General Education Program (GEP) / Global Achievement Academy (GAA)

 

The Nicholson School of Communication (NSC) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) is seeking applications for a nine-month, non-tenure earning, three-year visiting lecturer in the Human Communication, General Education Program (GEP), Global Achievement Academy (GAA) program anticipated to begin fall 2018. 

 

Requirements:  A doctorate in communication or a related field from an accredited institution, with degree conferred by hire date and a record of commitment to enhancing diversity and inclusion.

 

Preference:  Experience with, or potential for, developing and teaching in a variety of delivery modes including large lecture, small skills classes, online or mixed-mode environments, and have professional experience in public speaking and working with non-native English students.

 

Instructional Duties:  Teaching four courses each semester (“4-4”) at UCF’s Orlando campus based on the school’s current workload policy.  The instructional assignment includes teaching at the undergraduate level, including teaching public speaking at the college level and capacity to teach communication theory in the Human Communication, General Education Program (GEP).   Courses include: Introduction to Communication, Fundamentals of Technical Presentation, Fundamentals of Oral Communication and sections of these courses which support the Global Achievement Academy (GAA) for international students.  Other courses may be assigned based on need and/or expertise. 

 

Internal Service:  Appropriate service in student advising (academic and career), internship supervision, participating in the academic life of the school (e.g., attending faculty meetings, graduations, assessment of student learning, etc.), as well as serving on various committees as appropriate for an instructor or lecturer in the school.

 

External Service:  Work with appropriate academic disciplinary bodies and professional organizations.  There is no research expectation for this position, but research and scholarly activities may be supported.

 

NSC is especially interested in hiring faculty members who can contribute to its climate of diversity and inclusion.
