Job Description

The purpose of this position is to serve as a member of the college’s academic and student affairs team. This position also participates as a member of the college president’s management team (President’s Cabinet, Riverland Council, Faculty Shared Governance and Strategic Planning). Reporting to the Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs, this position supervises approximately 50 faculty and staff.

  • This position provides leadership, management, evaluation and administration for the faculty, staff and student services that reinforce student success and learning; participates in student affairs, academic, non-academic and other Minnesota State System statewide meetings.
  • Leads and collaborates with faculty and staff to plan and develop new program initiatives as well as redesign co-curricular programs and services.
  • Suggests or develops policy and process when necessary to enhance effective and efficient administration; provides leadership and support for other initiatives with the vice president’s, president’s and chancellor’s annual work plans related to strategic enrollment.
  • This position serves as the college Title IX Officer.
  • Chair the College’s Strategic Enrollment Management & Retention committee including the College SEM (Strategic Enrollment Management) Plan.
  • This position builds and encourages effective professional relationships with colleagues and leaders in the community and requires unit-level assignments of responsibility in the four buildings and three locations of the college as it relates to student services, success and learning.


SUMMARY OF PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTS:

  1. College Student Affairs Officer (CSAO)/ Division Head of Student Affairs. Departments within the Office of the Dean of Students include but are not limited to: Admissions & Recruitment, Assessment & Testing services, Financial Aid, Records & Registration, Advising Services, Advocacy Services, Accessibility & Mental Health Counseling services, TRIO Student Support Services, Student Life (including programming, student government, & athletics), Student Conduct, Housing & Residential Life, and Title IX.
  2. Provide division and institution level leadership and support for strategic enrollment initiatives.
  3. Serve as the College’s Title IX Officer.
  4. Provide supervision of the Director of Residential and Student Life (DRSL) including supporting the DRSL in the day to day operations of student housing.
  5. Manage, develop, allocate and monitor assigned planning and budgeting processes.
  6. Determine need, recruit, interview and recommend new faculty and staff, evaluate and monitor progress; provide leadership.
  7. Provide leadership and support for other initiatives within the vice president’s, president’s and chancellor’s annual work plans.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the departments within the division of Student Affairs and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.

Required Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree required.
  • Three years successful student affairs experience (or comparable) required.
  • Successful three years of leadership experience at the program, unit (department), or division level (or comparable) required.

 

This position requires a high level of leadership skill and senior management ability, including a thorough knowledge and understanding of postsecondary education; an understanding of and commitment to the community college mission; accomplishments in academic excellence and best practices in higher education; substantial skills in effective fiscal and budgetary management; a demonstrated commitment to affirmative action and equal opportunity; demonstrated ability to work with the local external community; experience with student support services (TRIO/SSS) projects and grant writing and capability to work constructively and communicate effectively with the internal college community and other constituents.

The position requires human relations skills evidenced by the ability to provide leadership and accountability of a team, ability to delegate in a team environment that includes students, instructional administrators, faculty and staff members and others at the college; great sensitivity to all facets of the college community, including the needs of the various groups which comprise it; the ability to make the college an integral part of the total community; and a personal orientation to the process and skill in the management of participatory decision-making.

The position requires the ability to maintain productive working relationships with a variety of constituents, experience with the collective bargaining and shared governance processes and skill in administration of contracts and the ability to resolve controversial issues with others.
 

Preferred Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced degree (doctorate) preferred.
  • Five years successful student affairs experience (or comparable).
  • Successful five years of leadership experience at the program, unit (department), or division level (or comparable).

Salary:
Salary range for MnSCU Administrator 6 classification is currently $80,858 – $129,377 annually. Salary is commensurate with experience and education and in accordance with the 2021-2023 Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Personnel Plan for Administrators.
