The Utah State Board of Regents invites nominations and applications for the position of President of The University of Utah, one of eight institutions within the Utah System of Higher Education.

The University of Utah, located in Salt Lake City on the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains, is the flagship institution of higher learning in Utah. Founded in 1850, it serves 32,000 students from across the U.S. and the world. With over 72 undergraduate major subjects and more than 90 graduate major fields of study, including law and medicine, the University prepares students to excel, contribute, and compete in the global workplace.  The University’s faculty are world-renowned.  While achieving the very best in research and teaching, the University is unwavering in its commitment to being inclusive of diverse peoples and ideas.

The University is classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a Research University-Very High Research Activity institution and is a member of the PAC-12 Athletic Conference. The institution’s current annual operating budget exceeds $3.4 billion, with $447 million in instruction expenditures and $316 million in research expenditures.

The University’s influence reaches beyond academics with an award-winning state-wide, comprehensive health system.  It also excels at bringing innovations to the marketplace, and was recently recognized as the best university for technology transfer in the nation. The University—whether faculty, staff, students, or alumni—provides invaluable leadership to the state and has developed vital, collaborative relationships between higher education, government, industry, and communities.

The President is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the Board of Regents and is responsible to the Board for overall administration of the University. Ideal candidates should have demonstrated success in a leadership role at a major, complex research institution; candidates should also have a proven record of scholarly achievement in higher education, appreciation for multiple disciplines, experience and success in fundraising, a commitment to diversity and inclusion, and leadership qualities essential for the administration of a large, culturally diverse, and complex research institution.  A terminal degree is required. While applications and nominations will be accepted until a new President is selected, interested parties are encouraged to submit their materials to our consultant at the address below by November 10, 2017 to assure optimal consideration.  Application materials should include a current resume and a letter addressing how the candidate’s experiences match the position requirements.
