Two Full-Time Tenure-Track Faculty Positions, School of Criminology and Criminal Justice

Florida Atlantic University (FAU) School of Criminology and Criminal Justice (SCCJ) invites applications for two full-time tenure-track faculty positions, one at the Assistant Professor level and one at the Associate Professor level, both begin fall 2018 on the Boca Raton campus. Areas of specialization are open with priority given to those with expertise in courts, victimology, international criminal justice, or gender and crime. A Ph.D. in criminal justice, criminology, or a related discipline is required at time of appointment.

 

About the School

FAU is a Carnegie doctorate-granting university (RU/high research activity) with over 30,000 students and is a designated Hispanic Serving Institution. FAU’s strategic plan focuses on healthy aging, neuroscience, environmental science, and sensing and smart systems, supported by scholarly activities that address diversity, leadership, big data analytics, global perspectives and participation, community engagement, undergraduate research, healthy and sustainable campus environments, and peace, justice, and human rights. The SCCJ is the second largest undergraduate degree program by enrollment at FAU and offers the Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and a Master of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice. School initiatives include community engagement, study abroad, high school summer camps, a fully online undergraduate degree program, research colloquia, and research partnerships with the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors. Qualifications

Applicants for both positions must have a Ph.D. in Criminology or Criminal Justice. A Ph.D. in a related discipline with documented specialization in criminology or criminal justice will be considered. ABDs will be considered for the Assistant Professor position but requirements for the Ph.D. must be completed by the position start date. A Juris Doctorate alone is not sufficient. The successful candidate for both positions must demonstrate a commitment to conduct independent research and publish in peer reviewed journals, have a record of or the potential for securing external funding, as well as contribute to the graduate program. Faculty are expected to teach in core courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Preferred candidates will have a record of externally-funded research with federal and state agencies relevant to the candidate’s area(s) of expertise, engage with the criminal justice community, and have eLearning experience.

Transcripts for faculty positions must be an official copy scanned into an electronic format and attached to the application. Degrees from outside the United States must be validated by an organization belonging to the National Association of Credential Evaluation Service (NACES), with an indication of the documents the evaluation was prepared from (official transcripts, diplomas, dissertation abstracts). The evaluation should be scanned and electronically attached to the application. An unofficial transcript may be used during the hiring process to assure that the prospective faculty member may be credentialed for the courses they are expected to teach. An official transcript sent directly from the institution is required for the Provost’s credential file prior to the first day of employment. Similarly, for degrees from outside the United States, the evaluation by an organization belonging to the National Association of Credential Evaluation (NACES), with an indication of the documents the evaluation was prepared from (official transcripts, diplomas, dissertation abstracts) is required for the Provost’s credential file prior to the first day of class.
