The Department of Kinesiology at California State University, San Bernardino invites applications for an Assistant Professor tenure-track position beginning September, 2018. The Kinesiology department at CSUSB is a growing department with approximately 1,000 majors.  Our students choose between three concentrations: Allied Health, Exercise Science, and Pedagogy.  Our faculty are actively involved in research and in professional organizations in their respective fields. The successful candidate will join an intellectually stimulating and innovative academic environment that embraces diversity.          
  
California State University, San Bernardino (a Hispanic serving Institution) is located in San Bernardino in the Inland Empire, 60 miles East from Los Angeles.  CSUSB offers programs through the colleges of Arts and Letters, Business and Public Administration, Education, Natural Sciences, Social and Behavioral Sciences and operates a satellite campus in Palm Desert located in Coachella Valley.  CSUSB serves approximately 20,700 students and offers 47 undergraduate, 35 graduate and one doctoral degree as well as 13 programs with national accreditation.

Typical Activities

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in Kinesiology, activity courses in the professional teacher preparation curriculum, maintain a robust, ongoing research agenda, and mentor students at the undergraduate level. The candidate will also advise students and perform career-related service roles on and off campus for the department, college, university and professional societies.  Furthermore, the candidate will also lead activities that will advance scholarly excellence in Kinesiology.

Minimum Qualifications

Earned degrees in Kinesiology/Exercise Science/Physical Education or related area are required.  Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree however candidates with 'all but dissertation' (ABD) are considered.  A documented commitment to excellence in teaching, research and service at the undergraduate level is expected. College level teaching experience is preferred. We strongly encourage members of underrepresented groups to apply.

Preference will be given to applicants who have the ability to teach in multiple areas such as orientation to Kinesiology (formerly history & philosophy of Kinesiology), socio-psychological aspects of Kinesiology, exercise nutrition, or exercise programming.  An ability to develop a profile of extramural funding is desirable.

Preferred candidates are expected to meet the traditional requirements of excellence in teaching, active scholarly and professional work, and service to the university and community.  In addition, new faculty are encouraged to develop and participate in activities that support the university's strategic plan. This plan emphasizes: a) student success; b) faculty and staff success; c) stewarding resources; d) community engagement; and, e) enhancing the campus identity.
