The Teaching, Learning, and Leadership Division prepares and advances learning of innovative teachers, designers, educational leaders, and researchers. Our programs address practice-based and theoretical problems in schools and community settings related to teaching and learning, learning sciences and technologies, curriculum, informal learning, and educational leadership.

Job Description

Duties:

Working under the supervision of the chair of the Teaching, Learning, and Leadership (TLL) Division Chair, oversee many and manage some non-academic and academic functions within 5 programs (LST MSED, TLL MSED, LST PHD, TLTE EDD, TLTE PHD) and any legacy and/or new programs. In collaboration with faculty and the GSE Admissions Office, oversee and/or manage recruitment and admissions to these programs. Oversee orientation planning and management, in collaboration with the GSE Student Affairs Office. Serve as a primary contact for divisional students, oversee contact with students, advise students, and handle all challenging student cases. Coordinate divisional faculty meetings and program faculty meetings. Serve as program representative for all ISSS and visa issues for students, including CPT, OPT, I-20 extension, and RCL authorization requests. Independently and collaboratively prepare all marketing materials (including website and Admissions materials). Oversee and manage administration of all program changes, working with faculty and GSE-wide faculty committees (including MSED Research Internship, MSED Capstone, doctoral Qualifying Exams, doctoral Preliminary Exams, program substitutions and exceptions, other projects as assigned). Serve as lead interpreter and knowledge source of GSE and program policies, for faculty, students, and staff. Sit on GSE-wide committee of fellow program managers; interpret and troubleshoot policy-related issues. Oversee all social events, from planning through execution, for faculty and students. Manage all communications to students. Manage adjunct appointments. Maintain academic, budget, and other records. Conduct data analyses to predict student enrollment and course needs. Oversee course rostering process, including hiring of part-time instructors, preparation of payroll paperwork, and course rostering. Serve on and/or coordinate 5 division committees. Manage successful administrative support for 10+ faculty members and their grant-funded projects, with research teams totaling 80+ people/year. Manage division operating budget. Liaise and collaborate closely with GSE offices (including SRO, OSS, Admissions, HR, Development) and with Penn offices (including Provost's Office, ISSS, and OSC). Supervise staff of 3. Must be available to attend occasional events on nights and weekends. Must be expert in or have ability to become expert in Penn systems (including: Pennant, BP Logix, CM, Concur, QlikView).

Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree and 5 to 7 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Master's degree preferred. Candidate will display superb organizational ability and an eye for detail. Candidate should demonstrate ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects; to write clearly and professionally and have experience communicating successfully to diverse audiences; be able to represent faculty and degree programs at recruitment activities; to effectively interact with diverse communities and diverse actors; to encourage multiple perspectives as they impact divisional activities; and to support the Chair and faculty with tact, confidentiality, and judgment.

Candidate must be collaborative, flexible, and work productively in an academic environment. The ability to foster a positive and productive working environment among faculty and staff is critical. Experience managing staff is required. Expertise working with Microsoft Office, admissions and enrollment management databases, and an open willingness to learn and develop new applications are highly desired.
