Job Description Summary
The University of Pennsylvania is seeking a Director of High Throughput Experimentation (HTE) responsible for designing and developing reactions for micro-scale parallel reaction optimization and developing parallel synthesis designs and workflows for the fee-for-service center, and support ongoing efforts of the academic groups at UPenn and other external colleges.

Duties:

The Director is responsible for oversight of the facility that supports micro-scale parallel reaction optimization. Primary responsibilities include developing parallel synthesis designs and workflows for the fee-for-service center to support ongoing efforts of the academic groups at UPenn and other external colleges as well as industrial users. The responsibilities will also include continuation of business generation, facility instrument maintenance and general day to day facility administrative tasks. Further specific duties: Attend executive forums with relevant external partners and generate new business leads at technology-expositions, conferences etc. Liaise with external business partners to further the capabilities of fee for service work to allow effortless integration between both parties. Incorporate new technologies and capabilities collaboratively with departmental principal investigators. Plan out instrument upgrades as needed and secure new equipment for expanding needs. Work with departmental principal investigators to identify and apply for external funding from government and foundation resources. Present work at national meetings to further showcase the center's capabilities. Train and assist users (undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate) on parallel micro-scale experimentation for reaction optimization, maintain analytical instruments.

This position is contingent on continued funding.

Qualifications
Master's Degree or foreign equivalent in Chemistry or Organic Chemistry, and at least 3-5 years of experience in designing and developing reactions, required. Ph.D. preferred.

Ideal candidate will have experience performing and developing workflows for (i) micro-scale parallel reaction optimization; (ii) small molecule synthesis and purification, analysis and characterization; and (iii) working with air sensitive materials under inert atmospheres, utilizing transition metal catalysis. The ideal candidate will attend executive forums with relevant external partners and generate new business leads at technology-expositions, conferences etc., and liaise with external business partners to further the capabilities of fee for service work to allow effortless integration between both parties and expand upon current Penn scientific collaborations.
