Job Description:

The Assistant Director for Facilities and Operations is responsible for the coordination of the day-to-day operation of the residence hall buildings, management of the apartment contract process, development of the long-term furniture, carpet and equipment replacement plan, administration of the academic year billing process and collection according to University policy, and coordination of residence hall repairs, renovations and improvements.

 

This position will work closely with the Assistant Directors for Living Areas to help coordinate staff moves including the management of the JOR database, ensure that facility related items are addressed, assume departmental back up duty responsibility on a rotating basis, assist with the coordination of the early arrival process and housing for summer schedule, orientations and EOP (Educational Opportunity Program), and coordinate and supervise the preparation of the fall and spring room check-out process.

 

This Assistant Director for Facilities and Operations will oversee the management of departmental keys; including the distribution and collection of staff, residence hall closing, recess, specialty, summer and conference housing keys.  They will also supervise the operation of the departmental key shop and will be required to maintain an inventory of staff keys, review and update key manual, policies and procedures as needed and is responsible for the coordination of emergency lock changes, lost key replacement and key billing process throughout the year.

 

This position will be responsible for the coordination of residence hall opening and closing, summer conference housing, scheduling quadrangle fire drills, ensure completion of evacuation drill reports, scheduling annual summer simplex testing and scheduling fire safety training for the department.  

 

The Assistant Director for Facilities and Operations will serve as a liaison to, and work closely with, the Physical Plant Department, University Police Department, Environmental Health and Safety Office, Equipment Management Office, Telecommunications Office, Parking and Mass Transit, and the Office of Environmental Sustainability.  This position will be responsible for communicating and collaborating facilities related items with these offices. In addition, they will also be required to dispose of departmental assets utilizing campus procedures and work in collaboration with University Offices to promote sustainability initiatives in the residence halls and apartments.


Requirements:

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education (ED) or internationally recognized accrediting organization
  • Minimum of 3 years full time work experience in a related field
  • Demonstrated superior interpersonal, organization and writing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive issues and respond to crisis in a timely, effective manner
  • Demonstrated supervisory and management skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Experience working with faculty and staff
  • Applicants must address in their application their ability to work with a culturally diverse population.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education (ED) or internationally recognized accrediting organization
  • Facilities management experience
