President

Thomas Edison State University is seeking a visionary and entrepreneurial leader to serve as its next President and advance the innovative mission of the University.

Thomas Edison State University (TESU) is a specialized institution with a mission of providing high quality education for collegiate adult learners in a flexible setting. TESU is one of the 11 senior public colleges and universities in New Jersey. The University is a national leader in the assessment of prior learning and a pioneer in the use of the latest technologies to develop and deliver academic programs that work around the unique needs of adults.

With an enrollment of 17,000 students, the University offers associate, baccalaureate, graduate and doctoral degrees in more than 100 areas of study. Approximately two-thirds of TESU’s students are from New Jersey, and the remainder come from all 50 states as well as over 60 countries around the world. While the University is not a classroom-based institution, it has an elegant eight-building campus within the capital district of Trenton, New Jersey. The New Jersey State Library is also an affiliated institution of the University.

Academic programs at the University are administered through its five academic schools including the School of Applied Science and Technology, the Heavin School of Arts and Sciences, the School of Business and Management, the W. Cary Edwards School of Nursing, and the John S. Watson School of Public Service and Continuing Studies. TESU does not have faculty members but contracts with over 500 academically trained scholars/consultants that provide mentoring and participate in the academic policy formulation at the University. TESU also has over 340 talented staff members who provide significant support to the University and its students.

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the President is the chief executive officer of the University and is responsible for all of the operations of the institution including its finances, academic programs, fundraising and administration of resources. A candidate should have proven experience leading a complex institution, strong management skills, and the ability to attract funds to support the University. Experience with adult learning and online education is desired as well as a commitment to diversity. Outstanding academic credentials including an earned doctorate or other terminal degree are preferred, but achievement of the highest level of distinction and leadership in a relevant field will also be considered.
