Assistant Director for Student Housing

The Office of Student Housing at Morehead State University is excited to open for submissions an Assistant Director for Student Housing position. Unlike many peer institutions, MSU has prided itself on creating a position that has the ability to be tailored specifically to the successful candidate to best meet departmental needs and their professional development and skill acquisition goals. Our three-person Assistant Director team will have the opportunity to develop functional skills in areas like recruitment, selection, professional staff supervision, budget and fiscal management, community development and residence education, marketing and communications, and business operations.  This style of leadership allows the successful candidate to acquire a wide breadth of hands-on experiences to increase their marketability and positioning for Chief Housing Officer positions without being limited or tasked specifically to only one functional area for the duration of their appointment.

Responsibilities: The Assistant Director for Student Housing, as part of our three-person Assistant Director team, contingent on annual functional assignment, could have oversight and management in the areas of staff supervision, strategic planning, departmental communications, business operations, residential conduct process, student leadership, living-learning collaboration, training and development, and departmental forecasting and benchmarking. Assignments are not required to change, but may change dependent on incumbent desires, departmental goals, and functional needs of the Division, Department or University.

Requirements: Master’s degree. Minimum of three (3) years progressive responsibility and successful experience in student housing or a related field. Demonstrate a clear understanding of student development theories and have the ability to apply the theories in practical situations. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and demonstrate a strong client service orientation. Demonstrate computer proficiency with standard office applications.

Desired Qualifications: Experience working with Colleague application, experience working with Adirondack Solutions, experience with assessment and learning outcomes is desirable.

Candidates should have a strong passion for student housing and a goal for an eventual senior-level housing position. Ideal candidates will have an entrepreneurial spirit, a desire to be elite in daily responsibilities, and an exemplary ability for teamwork, collegiality, and student success.

Additional Info: This position has an optional low-cost live on possibility in a campus apartment community. Questions or needs for additional information can be directed to Alan Rucker, Director of Housing and Residence Education at a.rucker@moreheadstate.edu.
