Vice President for Business and Finance/CFO

Centenary University, located in Hackettstown, New Jersey, announces the search for a Vice President for Business and Finance/Chief Financial Officer (VPBF/CFO). The University seeks an experienced professional who will join first year President David Haney and his newly formed leadership team. Serving 2,700 students annually with an operating budget in excess of $42 million, the VPBF/CFO will manage the business and financial sectors of the University. The person filling this position will assume his/her responsibilities no later than September 1, 2017.

As Centenary University celebrates the 150th anniversary of its founding as Centenary Collegiate Institute in 1867, the University begins its search for a new VPBF/CFO. Centenary University has evolved from its origin as a coeducational preparatory school to a girls' preparatory school (1910), a junior college for women (1940), a four-year women's college (1976), a coeducational baccalaureate-degree-granting institution (1988), a master-degree-granting institution (1995), and now a university (2016).

The VPBF/CFO will provide leadership in the business and finance by working with the following units: Facilities, Controller, Bursar, Chief Information Officer and Security. In addition, leadership opportunities will involve working with the President, Board and other vice presidents in refining and implementing the Strategic Plan 2018-23. The VPBF/CFO will work as an equal partner with a newly reconfigured and dynamic leadership team.

To provide the leadership required in this position, the Vice President for Business and Finance should possess a high level of energy, integrity, intelligence, and humility, as well as a passionate desire to lead, a commitment to continuous improvement, and a willingness to embrace and overcome challenges. A close and collaborative working relationship with the senior leadership team and others across the University is essential. Preference will be given to those with a master's degree and/or a CPA and experience in higher education; however, candidates from other areas of financial management with an exceptional record of collaborative leadership and success will be considered. The new Vice President will have a record of progressive and effective management experience as well as demonstrated knowledge of endowment management, debt management, financial accounting, budgeting, real estate management, risk management, contract management, financial planning, and higher education finance. Demonstrated knowledge in areas such as physical plant and other auxiliaries will be beneficial.
