One of the nation’s top 30 public universities, the University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications and nominations for the Executive Director of Development position in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences (CSBS). Among all of the schools and colleges at UMass Amherst, CSBS is one of the largest and most diverse in its academic programs with nearly 5000 undergraduate majors and more than 47,000 living alumni. This appointment is an excellent opportunity for an experienced fundraiser to take on a key leadership role at UMass Amherst during an exciting time.

Having successfully concluded, in 2016, the largest fundraising campaign in UMass history, surpassing the $300 million goal by $79 million, the UMass Amherst Foundation continues to aggressively raise funds and build a culture of philanthropy at the University. The Executive Director of Development will lead a small group of professionals in these activities within a highly collaborative, mission-driven environment. The Executive Director of Development will work closely with the Associate Vice Chancellor for Constituent Programs, the development team, as well as with others in CSBS including the Dean, the Director of Communications, and the Director of the CSBS Career and Professional Development Center.

Executive Director of Development:  Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Constituent Programs and working closely with the Dean of CSBS, the Executive Director of Development is responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive development program for the College. The program incorporates both campaign and annual fundraising, with particular emphasis on major individual, corporate, foundation, and planned gifts. The Executive Director supervises three other development and stewardship staff in the College.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree; Five or more years of demonstrated success in major gift fundraising in a development program, with equivalent experience in business or industry considered; Proven track record of cultivating, soliciting and closing major gifts of $50K or more; Ability and willingness to travel, work evenings and weekends; Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills; Excellent administrative skills. 

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in fundraising within educational institution; Management experience; Experience working with senior-level executives; Knowledge of prospect management systems; Knowledge of database fundraising software CS Advance.

Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
