Associate Director of Leadership Annual Giving for Young Alumni and Students

Position Summary:

Carolina Development is seeking applications for the position of Associate Director of Leadership Annual Giving for Young Alumni and Students. Reporting to the Director of Leadership Annual Giving, they will lead student and young alumni engagement and philanthropy initiatives and create an annual giving fundraising strategy for these constituents. The Associate Director will plan, organize and implement current annual giving fundraising trends, including direct marketing, new media and special events. This position will also help to identify and manage peer-to-peer fundraising volunteers.

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Management (45%): 

  • Raise current and endowed gifts for University-wide programs, educate constituents, increase participation, and represent to all students and young alumni the fundraising needs of the University and its many schools and units.
  • Participate in strategic planning for the University Development Office. Devise an effective short- and long-term work plan for each young alumni and student program by creating fundraising strategies including; coordinating campaign planning, prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, participation and donor acknowledgment and recognition.
  • Travel nationwide to meet directly with young alumni prospects to cultivate their interest in the University and solicit them for Chancellors' Clubs leadership level giving societies. Identify young alumni prospects through research, screening, and rating sessions. Utilize research information to formulate appropriate solicitation requests for gift prospects. A minimum of 75 face-to-face solicitations per year is required.
  • Recruit, train, motivate and solicit fundraising volunteers who serve on the Young Alumni Leadership Council and Heelraisers Student Giving Council. Determine ways to connect annual giving volunteers with schools, units and student organizations for their ongoing development efforts. Organize and effectively run meetings of the councils.

 

Manage the annual Senior Campaign (45%):

  • Train, motivate and solicit Senior Marshals to help build the pipeline of lifetime giving to the University.
  • Develop and implement solicitation marketing strategies using new media trends and efforts for current and prospective donors.Work with the Annual Giving Direct Marketing team to produce and distribute digital fundraising efforts.
  • Plan and attend events in conjunction with the General Alumni Association, The Rams Club, University Events and Student Affairs.Implement events in cities with a large young alumni presence. Work closely with appropriate University staff members in development efforts campus-wide to assure that all support systems are in place for the planning and implementation.
  • Maintain and supervise a system of young alumni and student participants' gift reporting and provide periodic summaries as appropriate. Participate as a member of the University Development staff in the overall execution of a comprehensive development program.

 

Other Duties (10%):

  • Serve as an active and collaborative partner to all central and unit-based development functions and other campus colleagues, to foster strategic and collaborative fundraising practices.
  • Carry out other such responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Leadership Annual Giving, the Executive Director of Annual Giving and senior management.

 

Education Requirement:  Bachelor’s degree is required. A master’s degree is preferred.

 

Qualifications and Experience Requirement:

2+ years of demonstrated successful annual giving or transferrable experience required. Ability to manage special events and other related activities. Ability to develop trust and strong collaborative working relationships. Experience nurturing and motivating development professionals in order to foster professional growth and exceed organizational goals. Ability to interact effectively in a comprehensive research university setting. Familiarity with the University’s academic and administrative offices and their functions; knowledge of and ability to tap resources within the University. An employment history highlighted by increasing levels of responsibility and a demonstrated ability to exercise sensitivity and good judgment in dealing with staff and the public. Superb interpersonal relationship skills. Exceptional written and oral communications skills. Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. Willingness and ability to travel.
