Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream - Professional Development

The Departments of Biochemistry and Immunology in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto invite applications for a joint Assistant Professor, Teaching-Stream appointment in the area of professional development. The appointment will commence on July 1, 2017.

Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. or equivalent with a strong background in biochemistry and biotechnology related fields and demonstrated excellence in developing and leading relevant curriculum.  Postdoctoral experience would be an asset, as would experience in both private and public sectors. Teaching expertise is required in scientific communication, the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors, science policy and other areas of relevance to our students. Evidence of excellence in teaching and a demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical practices will be demonstrated through strong teaching evaluations, letters of reference from referees of high standing endorsing excellent teaching and commitment to teaching innovation, and the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach a variety of graduate and undergraduate courses on topics such as scientific communication; the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and start-up sectors; and professional development. The successful candidate will also be expected to conduct research and publish on the topic of pedagogy and program delivery as it relates to undergraduate and graduate professional development, and to lead the curriculum development process in this area in consultation with others in the Departments.
