North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NCAT) invites nominations and applications for the Dean of the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. 


The Dean of the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences is the chief academic and administrative officer for the College. The Dean provides visioning in support of University’s strategic plan. Dean responsibilities include the following: administration of instructional, research and extension programs, financial management, fundraising, and external relations. In addition, the Dean oversees recruitment, and evaluation of faculty. The Dean reports to the Provost and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs.  


The College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, formerly the School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences prior to July 1, 2016, houses the Departments of Agricultural and Environmental Systems; Animal Sciences; Family and Consumer Sciences; Agribusiness, Applied Economics and Agriscience Education; and Natural Resources and Environmental Design. In addition, the College houses the NCAT component of the North Carolina Extension Service and the approximately 490-acre University Farm.

NCAT offers degree programs at the baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral levels.  


Candidates must have an earned doctorate in a discipline within the College and a record of teaching, research and/or extension, and professional accomplishment to qualify for appointment at the rank of professor with tenure. The successful candidate will have demonstrated administrative ability and possess an understanding of the philosophy and mission of a land-grant 
university. In addition, the successful candidate will have demonstrated budgeting, public relations, development and personnel management experience. The Dean is expected to be a visionary leader and have a demonstrated ability to develop internal and external strategic partnerships.  


Preference will be given to candidates wit at least three years higher education administrative experience; knowledge and understanding of an institution with a land grant mission; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; excellent budget management skills; successful record of fundraising; a strong record of effective organization and administration skills with demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team member; a commitment to student learning and promoting a culture that values diversity.
