Job Description

AREA DIRECTOR, Division of Student Life-Residential Education-Residential Life Programs, to assume a live-in professional role responsible for furthering the mission of MIT by partnering with the head of house and other members of the house team to build a sense of community that encourages personal growth, accountability, health and safety, and a sense of belonging.  Will collaborate with heads of house to advise and support students’ development; act as a referral agent to campus resources; serve as a primary responder in dean-on-call rotation, addressing student crises and critical incidents; and uphold MIT policies and practices consistently.  Will also partner with house team members to implement graduate resident tutor and resident peer mentor selection, preparation, and ongoing education; promote community wellbeing by managing roommate conflicts and minor misconduct and supporting students in distress; and help orient and advise students in house leadership roles.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  master’s degree in higher education administration, psychology, social work, or related field; a minimum three years of full-time experience in residential life, student life, or related area; experience with staff supervision, leadership development, advising student groups, crisis intervention, student support, and residence hall administration; and the ability to work with students, colleagues, and faculty to build a welcoming living-learning residential community.
