Dean of Nursing

The University of Connecticut (UConn) seeks a visionary leader to serve as Dean of its School of Nursing. The School is dedicated to disseminating knowledge developed through innovative research, to engaging in expert practice, and to educating nursing scholars, clinicians, and leaders, with the goal of advancing the health of individuals and communities both locally and globally. UConn, a Carnegie Foundation R1 institution and one of the nation’s top 20 public universities, is the state’s flagship institution of higher education and includes a main campus in Storrs, CT, where this School and position are located.

The School of Nursing realizes its mission through a series of programs, including pre-licensure degree programs and graduate programs addressing the needs of practice and research. These include the BS program and the Certificate Entry Into Nursing/BS, an accelerated pre-licensure program, an MS program with five specialty tracks (primary and acute adult-gero care, clinical nurse leader, family nurse practitioner, and neonatal acute care), a DNP program, and a Ph.D. program. Total enrollment is 600 undergraduate and 225 graduate students at the main campus and four regional campuses. The baccalaureate and master’s programs were recently awarded re-accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education for the full ten-year term. The DNP program is accredited through 2019. The School is unique nationally in offering undergraduate nursing students a full semester education abroad opportunity that includes both theory and clinical course placements in South Africa and Puerto Rico. The School houses a P20 funded Center for Accelerating Precision Pain Self Management, several R03 projects in genetics and pain, and HRSA grants for advanced practice and educator preparation. The School’s annual budget is $14 million. The School has $3 million in endowed funds to support scholarships.

The Dean of the School of Nursing is its chief academic and administrative officer, reporting to the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. The successful candidate will be a proven leader and talented administrator, and demonstrate national leadership in teaching, research, and public service. Minimum requirements include a Ph.D. in nursing or an equivalent degree, eligibility for nursing licensure in the State of Connecticut, and credentials that merit appointment at the rank of full professor in nursing. The ideal candidate will have a record of distinguished teaching and research, substantial administrative experience at a research university, and proven success in external fund development with public agencies and private donors.

The University offers a competitive salary, outstanding benefits including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn, and a highly desirable work environment.
