Elon University

President

Elon University, one of the great success stories in American higher education, invites nominations and applications for the position of president.

Elon has built a national reputation as the premier student-centered environment for engaged learning. The university’s strong campus culture is based upon the personal relationships students form with their faculty and staff mentors. Elon is a selective, mid-sized private university located between North Carolina’s thriving Triangle and Piedmont Triad regions. About 6,000 undergraduate and 750 graduate students from 49 states and 50 nations study on Elon’s 636-acre residential campus, which is one of the nation’s finest environments for learning. The 425 full-time faculty members are dedicated to the teacher-scholar-mentor model and are joined by more than 800 staff members who are focused on student success. The Elon Core Curriculum and a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa speak to the excellence and centrality of the liberal arts and sciences. The schools of business, communications and education earn top national rankings and the schools of law and health sciences are noted for innovation and extending experiential learning to the graduate and professional level.

Global engagement and diversity are central to Elon’s academic model. Elon leads the nation’s master’s-level universities in the percentage of students who study abroad (74 percent), and is among the top producers of Fulbright Student Scholars, Peace Corps volunteers and Teach for America educators. Elon is a leader in undergraduate teaching and is the only university in the nation recognized for excellence by U.S. News & World Report in all eight categories of high-impact learning experiences: study abroad, undergraduate research, internships, service learning, residential learning communities, writing in the disciplines, senior capstone and first-year experiences. Elon student-athletes compete in 17 NCAA Division I sports in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Elon’s tight-knit and inclusive community has a global perspective and is committed to the enlightenment of the mind and soul as expressed in the university’s motto, Numen Lumen. Elon has created a powerful trajectory under the dynamic leadership of President Leo M. Lambert. The ninth president in Elon’s history will lead development of a challenging and innovative strategic plan that will continue Elon’s ascension as a nationally distinguished university. Elon seeks a leader with vision, energy, passion, integrity and a commitment to perpetual improvement. Please send all nominations and applications to:
