Job Description Summary
We are seeking a skilled Veterinary Nurse to work in the Dermatology and Allergy unit at Ryan Hospital. Candidates should have accomplished clinical skills and be proficient in phlebotomy, catheter placement and be able to sedate animals for minor procedures. Candidate should also have knowledge of or strong interest in learning about common dermatological diseases (such as canine and feline allergies), microscopy and common dermatologic diagnostic testing and procedures.

Job Description

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Assisting clinicians and veterinary students in collection of diagnostic samples and animal restraint for physical examinations and procedures
  • Teaching clinical skills related to sedation, sample acquisition for diagnostic tests, microscopy and dermatological procedures (skin biopsy and allergen testing) to veterinary and nursing students
  • Keeping clinic floor moving efficiently (appointments and consultations)
  • Stocking treatment areas
  • Cleaning and maintaining equipment including microscopes and video otoscope
  • Acquire patient histories from referring veterinarians and prospective clients
  • Scheduling and seeing nurse practitioner appointments for injections, cytology and bloodwork sampling
  • Provide client education (during clinic appointments and remotely)
  • Assisting faculty and residents with on-going clinical studies and research projects (IACUC certification required)
  • Assisting clinicians with client communication, including phone calls and email communications
  • Work with clinicians to keep prescription requests up to date, calling in necessary prescriptions to outside pharmacies based on clinician recommendations
  • Familiarity with hospital EMR


Qualifications

Must have CVT or be board eligible. Must sit for boards within 3 months of hire.

Veterinary Nurse A: 1-2 years of experience

Veterinary Nurse B: 2-3 years of experience

Veterinary Nurse C: 3-5 years of experience

Veterinary Nurse D: 5-8 years of experience

Veterinary Nurse E: 8 + years of experience

Certification as Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) by the Academy of Dermatology Veterinary Technicians is encouraged.

We are hiring at all levels for this position. $20.00/hour is the minimum starting salary for an entry-level position. Minimum starting salaries increase with each level. Relevant education, experience, skills, and licenses/ certifications are among the factors considered in salary offers.
