The Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for a Research Associate position in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years). Expertise is required in the specific area of cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo-EM), which will include working knowledge of sample preparation, data collection and processing and 3-D particle cryo-EM reconstruction. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree.

Responsibilities may include using state-of-the-art cryo-EM technology to determine 3-D structures of macromolecular complexes of biomedical importance and advising and/or collaborating with graduate students and postdocs working on cryo-EM projects.

The successful applicant will have an opportunity to further develop critical thinking skills, familiarize with related literature and prepare manuscripts and grant preparations, and present research findings in national and international meetings.
