Dean

College of Architecture and Design at the New Jersey Institute of Technology

The New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) seeks an experienced, resourceful, and visionary leader for the position of Dean of the College of Architecture and Design (CoAD).

The College has built an international reputation for research, teaching, and service through its diversity of degree programs, the commitment and enthusiasm of its faculty and students, and its position within a comprehensive polytechnic university located in Newark, New Jersey.  The Dean will leverage these strengths to find innovative ways to contribute to the evolving disciplines of architecture and design and to address contemporary urban challenges. While doing so, the Dean will help maintain CoAD’s commitment to exemplary teaching and research, the academic and professional development of students, interdisciplinary collaboration, and social responsibility.

The College comprises two schools housed within a shared facility. The School of Architecture offers professional and non-professional degrees in Architecture at both the undergraduate and graduate level and a Master’s degree in Infrastructure Planning. The school also partners with Rutgers-Newark in sponsoring the Joint PhD Program in Urban Systems. The School of Art + Design offers undergraduate degrees in Industrial Design, Interior Design, and Digital Design. All professional programs are accredited. In addition, the College offers joint and dual-degree programs with the Newark College of Engineering and the Martin Tuchman School of Management.

As the College’s chief executive officer, the Dean is responsible for academic and scholarly leadership, fundraising, and the advancement of CoAD within the college, the community, and the world. The Dean is expected to work with all constituencies to develop priorities and meet established goals for the College. S/he will lead student recruiting, coordinate curriculum development and foster collaboration among faculty, students and administration. S/he will also facilitate research and educational projects and help create and maintain close ties with funding agencies, industry, and other collaborators.

The successful candidate will have a distinguished record in scholarship, research, and/or professional practice in architecture, design or a related field that is commensurate with an appointment at the rank of Professor with academic tenure. S/he should also demonstrate a record of effective managerial leadership and maintain a commitment to diversity, inclusivity, shared governance, and community engagement.
