Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The mission of the School of Social Work is to advance equity, transform systems, improve lives. The school’s curriculum supports the mission and recognizes the uniqueness of the region served, including concerns for disadvantaged, vulnerable, and oppressed individuals, families, and communities. Classes provide rigorous and evidence-based content, and give students the opportunity to explore theory, learn intervention skills and engage in challenging dialogue with colleagues.

The School of Social Work is seeking applications for the position of Associate Dean of Advancement. This position reports directly to the Dean and is a member of the Dean’s senior management team. In consultation with the Dean, the Associate Dean is responsible for creating a strategic vision for the school’s overall fundraising program and its office of communications. The Associate Dean must develop strong stakeholder relationships with specific focus on faculty, marketing, communications, and finance. This position staffs the Dean’s work with select principal prospects and manages the school’s portfolio of top prospects to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major and principal gifts.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with related experience. For positions with responsibility for direct solicitation of gifts and funds, a minimum of 1 year of professional-level, direct solicitation/fundraising experience is required.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Travel, occasional evening and weekend work required

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Minimum of seven to ten years of progressively responsible experience in the field of development
  • Demonstrated record of accomplishments with respect to major gifts and corporate and foundation fundraising
  • Ability to manage a comprehensive fundraising program working independently and with volunteers
  • Ability to interact effectively in a comprehensive environment such as, a research university setting; and exhibit the highest standards of professionalism and performance as evidenced by collaborative teamwork, initiative, critical thinking, good judgment, consistency of output, and timeliness of follow-through
  • The skill to motivate and engender the confidence of prospects and donors
  • Exceptional verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to work efficiently on multiple projects
