Sacred Heart University invites applications for assistant professor of science education to begin August 21, 2017. This tenure-track faculty position is based at the University’s satellite location in Griswold, Connecticut.   The Griswold Campus is a unique “Learning Lab.”  The University shares facilities with the Griswold Public Schools; the campus includes an elementary, middle and high school. Graduate–level courses lead to CT teacher certification in elementary education (grades 1-6), as well as secondary (grades 7-12) certification in mathematics, biology, chemistry, English, general science, social studies/history and Spanish. Candidates pursuing initial teacher certification also participate in our graduate teacher internship program and earn Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degrees. The Griswold Campus also offers CT School Administrator Certification (092), 6th Year in Educational Leadership, endorsement in Literacy (102, 097) and cross endorsement in Special Education (165).  Primary teaching responsibilities for this position are in the areas of science methods and curriculum. Additional teaching responsibilities will be in initial or advanced programs, for example psychological foundations or educational assessment. Responsibilities include teaching graduate courses, advising candidates, implementing an active plan of scholarly research as well as participation and leadership in department and college committees, and providing service to university, local school districts and professional communities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in curriculum and instruction or related field, earned by August 15, 2017

  • Certification, or ability to secure Connecticut certification

  • Commitment to diversity and equity in education

  • 3 years of successful experience as a science teacher

  • A record of collaborative professional activity within a public school environment

  • Demonstrated understanding of current standards and policies that impact teacher education

  • Potential for scholarship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in curriculum and instruction with focus in science education

  • 5 or more years of successful experience as a science teacher

  • Experience as an instructional teacher supervisor, math interventionist or content specialist

  • Record of scholarly publications

  • Successful teaching experience in higher education

  • Experience integrating technology into teaching and learning
