The applicant should have a Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Planning, Public Policy, or a closely-related field in public affairs. The successful candidate will be primarily involved in teaching undergraduate and graduate classes in public policy, urban studies, social ecology, and/or urban planning. The professor of teaching will teach 8 courses per year (quarter system), which will be focused in two primary areas—School of Social Ecology courses in research design, statistical analysis, and naturalistic field research; and courses in the Master of Public Policy curriculum. Competence in geographic information systems and spatial analysis would be of added value. In addition to innovative teaching and contributions to service, advancement in this series requires externally recognized scholarly contributions to pedagogy and/or in the underlying discipline that supports teaching excellence. Depending on the successful candidate’s qualifications, there is the possibility for academic leadership responsibilities in the Master of Public Policy program within the department. Position is eligible for merit advancement with commensurate pay increases. Within eight years (or less), the holder of this position will be evaluated for Security of Employment, which has the permanence of a tenured position. This is an Academic Senate position within UC Irvine.
