President & Chief Executive Officer

Tuition Plan Consortium/Private College 529 Plan
President & Chief Executive Officer

The Tuition Plan Consortium, sponsor of Private College 529 Plan (the only 529 plan sponsored by private colleges and universities, not by a state government), seeks an ambitious and experienced leader to serve as its next President and Chief Executive Officer. The President and CEO will be an entrepreneurial leader who is a skilled relationship manager, a clear and effective communicator, and a sales/advocacy professional with a vision for advancing the organization to the next level.

The Tuition Plan Consortium was founded by a group of private colleges and universities in 1998 to establish, maintain, and administer a prepaid tuition program with the goal of making attendance at independent colleges and universities more affordable for students and families. The passing of the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act in 2001 (EGTRRA) included a provision under Section 529 of the Federal Tax Code to permit colleges and their consortia to establish prepaid tuition plans. In 2003, Tuition Plan Consortium launched a prepaid tuition plan (Independent 529 Plan, re-launched in 2010 as Private College 529 Plan) enabling account owners to purchase tuition at current rates for future use at any participating institution. Since inception, more than 280 private colleges and universities have joined the Plan.

The ideal candidate will have an understanding of the financial services industry (especially 529 products) and an ability to devise, implement, and modify specific growth strategies for Private College 529 Plan. A commitment to access and affordability of higher education, with an appreciation for the challenges that private institutions confront, is desirable. Proven ability as an articulate and persuasive spokesperson is essential, as is experience leading and managing in collaborative, team-oriented organizations/businesses.

Additional qualities include a focus on customer service, the ability to function in a small, “hands-on” organization as both a leader and a team player, superior organizational skills, a commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion, and the highest personal and professional integrity. A mature, flexible, and creative individual who can conceptualize and implement strategies to produce rapid results with minimum direction will be most successful in this role.

Applicants should submit a resume and a detailed letter discussing their specific and relevant accomplishments as well as their interest in the position. Background checks will be performed on all final candidates.
