Director of Development, UCLA California NanoSystems Institute

 

Building on a visionary investment in research, scientific advancement, and education, the California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI) at UCLA is a world-class collaborative center that generates ideas, discoveries and talent that fuel innovation. CNSI faculty represents a multi-disciplinary team of preeminent scientists from the life and physical sciences, engineering, medicine, and related fields. Their work embodies expertise in four targeted areas of nano-related research focused on energy, environment, health-medicine, and information technology.

The Director of Development, CNSI, will be directly responsible for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major gift prospects, creating donor and industry-centric communications that reflect these funding priorities, and developing activities to achieve specific goals. He/She will design and implement a comprehensive and integrated set of strategies related to the following: philanthropy, including public/private partnerships for CNSI; formation and engagement of the CNSI external advisory board; development communications; and media relations to address specific funding needs related to the academic priorities of the Institute. The Director will plan, manage and direct efforts of the CNSI to engage and build relationships with private individuals, corporations, foundations and other organizations in an effort to significantly increase philanthropy for the CNSI.

Reporting jointly to the Senior Director of Development and the CNSI Director, and working closely with the CNSI Executive Director, the Director of Development will identify and secure the necessary resources from public/private partnerships that will sustain and grow CNSI’s ability to provide transformative research capabilities. He/She will work in partnership with the CNSI Director of Entrepreneurship and Commercialization, the CNSI Education Manager, and other Institute staff to  identify prospects; develop solicitation strategies; and cultivate external relationships with corporations, investors, and foundations. The Director of Development will collaborate closely with the Institute's staff to contribute to a multi-faceted communications platform to enhance the reputation of the Institute and increase its visibility to a broad range of funders.
