Founding Dean, College of Health and Human Services

Clarion University invites nominations and applications for the position of the founding Dean of the College of Health and Human Services. The dean will provide vision, strategic leadership, planning, and coordination for the School of Health Sciences and related programs. Clarion University seeks an individual with vision and integrity who can work effectively with the president, provost, faculty and staff in enhancing academic affairs at Clarion University. Although the start date is negotiable, the dean will be expected to begin service not later than August 1, 2017.

Founded in 1867, Clarion University specializes in student-centered preparation for professional careers in fields such as health and human sciences, education, business, information sciences, arts and science. Enrolling more than 5,200 students from 44 states and 22 countries, Clarion offers more than 100 academic programs, which leads the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) in the number of programs accredited nationally. The university's academic enterprise includes three colleges: the new College of Health and Human Services; the College of Arts, Education and Sciences; and the College of Business Administration and Information Sciences

The College of Health and Human Services encompasses academic programs on the Clarion campus, its Venango campus, the West Penn nursing site at Clarion University—Pittsburgh, and online. The School of Health Sciences, which comprises the bulk of academic programs in the new College of Health and Human Services, includes the Department of Nursing, the Department of Communication Science & Disorders, and the Department of Human Services, Rehabilitation, Health, and Sport Sciences. Academic programs include a wide range of credit and non-credit possibilities, including associate, bachelor's, master's degrees, and a doctoral degree program in Nursing Practice (DNP). The Clarion University—Pittsburgh site offers 30 college level credits in courses required in West Penn Hospital's School of Nursing two-year Diploma Program.

The successful candidate will have earned a terminal degree in a discipline appropriate to the College of Health and Human Services; show evidence of accomplishments requisite for a senior faculty appointment in one of the schools/departments in the college; display a proven record of leadership as a faculty member, scholar, and administrator; and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Moreover, working with a host of dedicated and accomplished faculty, s/he will be someone who can lead and support the faculty and students in nationally-accredited programs to capitalize on the rich array of academic experiences, research opportunities, and unique to the expertise and accomplishments of the faculty; and maximize the opportunities present in a university with dynamic science and technology activities. The dean will report directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
