Position: Licensed Counselor (Psychologist, Clinical Social Worker, or Marriage Family
Therapist)

Type: Temporary, Part-time, 20 hours per week, Academic Year position (through May 25, 2017). This position is part of the California Faculty Association (CFA), subject to the CFA process of review, and may not work during the summer months.

Location: California State University, Bakersfield – Antelope Valley Center (CSUB-AV), and Antelope Valley College (AVC) in Lancaster, CA and at the AVC Palmdale, CA Center.

Description: The primary focus of this position is to provide a spectrum of counseling services to students enrolled at CSUB and Antelope Valley College (AVC).

Duties:
• Provides mental health counseling for students at CSUB-AV and AVC students at the AVC campus in Lancaster, CA and at AVC's Palmdale Center.
• Manages client scheduling and walk-ins (students that do not have an appointment but need immediate assistance).
• Provides individual, couples, and group counseling for culturally diverse student population.
• Provides crisis intervention and management, which may include nights and weekends.
• Provides outreach to students which may also include nights and weekends.
• Acts as an emotional wellness consultant for the university community.
• May participate in or lead educational workshops on various mental health topics.
• Supports CSUB and AVC by attending various functions that are deemed appropriate for Counseling Center staff by the Counseling Coordinator.
• Attends and participates in clinical supervision group and staff meetings.
• May involve supervision of student trainees or interns.
• Participates in weekly Counseling Center staff meetings (Mondays from 10am-12noon).
• Performs other duties related to job as directed by the supervisor.
• May teach/coordinate courses enhancing student's skills in the CSUB and AVC community.

Education and License: Licensed to practice in California with the appropriate terminal degree to support the license (e.g., Licensed Clinical Psychologist, LCSW, LMFT).

Experience: Two years post-license experience is desired, with counseling experience in a university setting or community college preferred. Experience required in managing a waiting list of college students who need counseling services. The applicant should be a generalist with some experience in the following: addiction and substance abuse; brief therapy; crisis management and consultation; counseling, prevention and outreach services to diverse populations; sexual and gender issues; understanding the complex dynamics of multicultural groups/people; and supervision of practicum level trainees.

Skills: Knowledge of relevant ethical and legal parameters of professional practice. Excellent communication skills, including a strong command of written reports. Proficiency in Titanium desirable. Able to work independently and with little supervision, be proactive and take initiative. Actively seeks out opportunities for growth and professional development. Demonstrates sensitivity and commitment to the unique needs of students experiencing mental health concerns. Demonstrates respect, professionalism and consideration when dealing with students, faculty and staff. Ability to work as part of a mental health team to serve the mission of CSUB and AVC.

Mental Demands: Ability to utilize effective organizational skills and flexibility. Ability to work in a busy student environment and to positively impact the lives of students. Ability to think abstractly, solve problems and effectively balance managing people and tasks. Ability to understand and relate well to students and others of diverse backgrounds. Ability to maintain and manage confidential information and situations. Ability to manage challenging situations including student and campus crises.

Background Check: A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Compensation: Commensurate with experience and qualifications and may include health benefits. Position is contingent annually based upon grant funding.
