PROVOST AND VICE PRESIDENT FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

Augustana College welcomes applications and nominations for the position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, to begin service in July, 2017.

Augustana is a private, selective college of the liberal arts and sciences. The 115-acre campus is located in Rock Island, Illinois, part of the Quad-Cities metropolitan area along the Mississippi River, 165 miles west of Chicago. Augustana awards the bachelor of arts in about 90 majors and related academic programs. The college has had a Phi Beta Kappa chapter since 1950, and is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. President Steven C. Bahls is Augustana’s eighth president.

The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs is the college’s chief academic officer, charged to oversee and support all aspects of the educational mission and academic program of the college. The provost reports to the president, is a key member of the President’s Cabinet, and serves as chief liaison to the academic affairs committee of the Board of Trustees.

The new provost will work closely with faculty across the campus in advancing a broad leadership agenda. This includes moving to a new academic calendar, implementing the Augustana 2020 strategic plan, developing new academic programs that honor and preserve the college’s liberal arts mission and character, advancing the college’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, and serving as a team member and advocate for students, the faculty and the academic program.

The successful candidate for the position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs will be a seasoned academic leader with a record of publication and a terminal degree in an academic or related field offered by the college. It is expected the new provost will be a broadly prepared, mission-oriented leader with successful faculty experience and a track record in developing new academic programs in a liberal arts setting. In addition, the college is seeking a candidate with excellent communication and decision-making skills, who leads by example, and who is excited by working in the student-focused environment of the private liberal arts college.
