Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK), the fastest growing doctoral university in the country, invites nominations and applications for the position, Dean of the Dick and Mary Lewis Kleberg College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Human Sciences (College). Reporting to Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Heidi Anderson, the Dean is administratively responsible for creating, developing, managing and advancing the academic, research and outreach programs of the College.

Founded in 1925, TAMUK, a member of the Texas A&M University System, has a diverse student body of over 9,200 students representing 35 states and 43 countries. The University is designated a Hispanic Serving Institution due to the fact that 62% of the undergraduate students are Hispanic with most residing in South Texas. The University is located in historic Kingsville, a friendly, safe city of 25,000 and home of the legendary King Ranch. Corpus Christi and its beaches are 40 miles to the northeast and the border with Mexico is 120 miles to the south.

The College houses the only agriculture related graduate degree programs in South Texas including the only master’s degree program in ranch management in the world. The College is home to three academic departments,  the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute, King Ranch® Institute for Ranch Management, Citrus Center and Marc Cisneros Center for Young Children. The faculty of the College oversee programs leading to seventeen baccalaureate, six masters and two doctoral degrees. The University seeks a Dean who is a strong visionary leader who will advocate for the College’s program and needs while simultaneously being a contributing member of the Provost’s leadership team, mindful of the overall institutional perspective.

The Dean should have a vision for collaborative initiatives among the diverse disciplines within the College as well as other areas of the University and external community. It is expected that the Dean will actively seek external grants and private funding opportunities to support programs of the College. The Dean will be expected to provide multi-faceted administrative experience including personnel and budgetary management, experience in identifying new revenue streams and resources to advance the priorities of the College. It will be important to both understand and relate to the culture of South Texas and the HIS designation of TAMUK. A hallmark of TAMUK is the student centered focus. Naturally, this should be a characteristic of the Dean. The Dean is expected to communicate with and understand and appreciate the role and concerns of consumers, producers, land managers and other stakeholders within the community and South Texas. The Dean is expected to build upon  the national and international reputation of the College and to continue the leadership position in the academic and research areas.
