Technical Faculty Position: Associate Director of the Photography Lab

The production labs in the School of Art are established to support the work of all students enrolled in the School. The Associate Director of the Photography Lab assists the Director of the Photography Lab in the day-to-day operation of the facility with particular attention to the Analog Lab. The Associate Director also assists in the planning and implementation of the necessary changes to keep the facility abreast of technological developments and in sync with curricular needs and assists the Director in managing budget and inventory.

In the Analog Lab (the Black & White Bays, the Mural Room, Color Processor and related areas), they provide orientation for new students and guidance for continuing students, and supervise student projects. This position will oversee maintenance and repairs, and advise and supervise updating of equipment and software.

This position will operate and manage the checkout cage, make darkroom assignments with special care in relation to safety issues; manage the daily requirements and upkeep of the color processor; manage hiring, scheduling, supervising and training of work-study / student assistants to check, mix and properly dispose of photographic chemicals.  

There are several times of the year when technical faculty must be fully present on campus.  These are Practicum preparation and supervision, budget planning and year-end inventory, and preparation for CSSSA.

The qualified applicant must experience teaching at the college level or comparable experience through activist community engagement, workshop facilitation, and other forms of instruction.  Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Teaching responsibilities amount to direct supervision and additional tutorials for Photo and Media students (the equivalent of one workshop), plus one class. This class will usually take place in the Fall semester and will be developed in consultation with the Program Directors in the Photo/Media Program.  Teaching responsibilities are to be arranged in consultation with the Dean, Program Director, and faculty advisor. 

All technical faculty report to the Dean through the Assistant Dean for Technology and Facilities.       

There is a commitment of a minimum of the equivalent of four days per week on campus with office hours posted.
