Lecturer in Mathematics

Applications are invited for two non-tenure-track full-time Lecturer positions in the Department of Mathematics (position numbers 00700131 and 00700139) to begin in the Fall semester of 2022.  The successful candidates should provide evidence of a strong commitment to teaching and will be expected to advance the instructional mission of the department through teaching a range of undergraduate math courses and service at both the Department and University level. Applicants are expected to hold a PhD in Mathematics or a related field, although exceptional candidates with an M.S. will be considered. Areas of teaching expertise of particular interest to the Department are pure mathematics and introductory scientific computing. Candidates with an interest in pedagogical innovation are particularly encouraged to apply. In exceptional cases appointment at the Senior Lecturer position is possible. The expected teaching load during the Spring and Fall semesters will be seven courses per year.

The Department of Mathematics at SMU offers B.S. and B.A. degrees in mathematics, as well as M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in computational and applied mathematics.  There are currently 19 tenured/tenure-track faculty members, 3 Senior Lecturers, 5 Visiting Professors, and 4 Adjunct Professors.  Hiring is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of a background check.
