Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS

Moore College of Art and Design, the nation’s first and only historically all-women’s college for art and design, seeks a dynamic, entrepreneurial and community-focused leader to become its next President. Since its founding in 1848, Moore has educated young artists and designers of immense talent, launching them into creative, enterprising, and impactful careers. Moore is a private non-profit entity incorporated under Pennsylvania law.

Located in the heart of Philadelphia, Moore is a shaper and leader of creative thought and impact in art, design, and industry. Founded during the original industrial revolution to expand women’s access to higher education and careers in the arts, today Moore offers a supportive and empowering undergraduate experience for women, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming students that encourages students to explore their individual creativity while pursuing a comprehensive academic program. Moore enrolls 370 degree- seeking students at the undergraduate and graduate level. Supporting the student body are 100 full- and part-time faculty, and 59 staff. Moore harnesses its size as a strength, which enables the cultivation of a caring and individually focused community for students, as well as affording leadership an unusual degree of institutional agility. Nine BFA programs, two graduate programs, and a post-baccalaureate certificate comprise the academic core. Grounded by the College’s academic excellence, distinct career focus and a first- rate career center, Moore alumnae/i are exceptionally successful after graduation.

The next president will inherit a strong institution that has refined its curricular offerings, made significant investments in the modernization of its infrastructure and brand, completed a $17.5M capital campaign, seen considerable endowment growth and enjoyed increasing fiscal health. The next President must be a forward- facing leader eager to ramp up the institution’s influence, but also a deft institutional steward who can anticipate and tackle yet-unseen circumstances and shifting priorities. Reporting to and working alongside the Moore Board of Trustees and Managers and in partnership with the staff and faculty, the President will further develop a vision for the future; continue to evolve educational programming; implement a comprehensive enrollment plan; steward the college’s finances; bolster and expand fundraising; continue to build an equitable, diverse, and inclusive campus community; support and empower Moore’s staff, faculty, and board; and strengthen external partnerships.

The next President is expected to be chosen in the spring of 2022, with the selected candidate formally taking office in summer 2022. The ideal candidate should bring considerable administrative experience, visionary and creative strategic thinking, outstanding leadership and people management skills, and a taste for calculated risk. The next President will be an exceptional communicator and listener with an unyielding commitment to the arts.
