Tenure-track Assistant Professor in Special Education (TWO POSITIONS)                                         

Position Summary

Teaching, scholarship, and service in special education related to one or more of the following areas: assessment, assistive technology, cultural and linguistic diversity, literacy, methods of teaching across content areas, severe disabilities, social/emotional/behavioral supports, transitions.

Program Information

Special education at Bowling Green State University is housed within the College of Education and Human Development. Our faculty is committed to creating a community of inclusion, collaboration, and respect. This mission is operationalized though iterative practices of inquiry and innovation that enhance the professional preparation of our students, providing them opportunities to engage in leadership and service grounded in experiential learning. We prepare students across three programs. The undergraduate Intervention Specialist Program leads to Ohio K-12 dual licensure for teaching students with mild-to-moderate and moderate-to-intensive educational needs. The undergraduate Inclusive Early Childhood Education Program leads to Ohio PK-5 dual licensure in special education and early childhood education for teaching young children with and without disabilities in inclusive settings. Online graduate certificates in Applied Behavior Analysis, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Assistive Technology, and Secondary Transition provide advanced professional preparation that leads to a special education master’s degree.   

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to special education in one or more of the following programs:
- Undergraduate Intervention Specialist program (leading to combined K-12 Mild-Moderate and Moderate-Intensive special education licenses)

- Undergraduate Inclusive Early Childhood program (leading to combined PK-5 special and general education licenses)

- Graduate Master’s Degree in Special Education online program that includes specializations in: Applied Behavior Analysis, Assistive Technology, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and Secondary Transition

Establish/maintain a productive research line leading to peer-reviewed publications/presentations and engage in grant writing activities as appropriate.

Provide service to the university, community, and profession.

Professional Qualifications

1.   Doctoral degree in Special Education or closely related field with a focus on special or inclusive education is required for probationary appointment as Assistant Professor; ABD considered with expected degree completion by August 2022.

2.   A minimum of three years professional experience working with individuals with disabilities (e.g., special education teacher or other related service provider in educational settings).

3.   Experience in teaching at the college-level is preferred. Experience teaching online courses is requested.

4.   Demonstrated commitment to scholarly activities including: research investigations, publications, presentations at professional conferences, and/or grant writing.

5.   Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and social justice (e.g., through curriculum development, research, service).

Salary

Salary is commensurate with level of experience.
