Job Description Summary
This position provides crucial research guidance and support to undergraduate researchers involved in the Penn and Slavery Project.

Job Description

Welcome to the Department of History at the University of Pennsylvania. Over thirty historians in the standing faculty with a broad range of research specialties advance our understanding of the past. Penn's graduate program trains the next generation of scholars and teachers. The Department's strong commitment to undergraduate education can be seen in the prominence of the history major, one of the largest on campus, in the numerous teaching awards earned by both standing faculty and graduate students, and history's strong presence in general education. History faculty direct and participate in many interdisciplinary centers on the Penn campus, and edit a number of scholarly journals.

Duties:

The desired candidate is responsible for supporting and vetting student research for the Penn & Slavery Project, and fact checking and supporting faculty research. The position also will serve as a consultant for the Penn and Slavery Project undergraduate research seminar in Fall 2022, and is expected to attend all classes and student presentations.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma/GED and 3-5 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Master's degree preferred. The Certified Genealogist ® credential awarded by the Board for Certification of Genealogists is required. Prior experience working with undergraduate students preferred.
