Job Description Summary
A full-time position has opened in the Penn FTD Center in the Department of Neurology at the University of Pennsylvania. The language team at the FTD Center focuses on developing automated methods to analyze digital speech signals from patients with neurodegenerative conditions including Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) and related disorders. We are adapting cutting edge technologies, including Automated Speech Recognition (ASR), Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Forced Alignment (FA) for clinical research implementations. We validate abnormal speech features derived with these computational tools against current established disease markers with a multimodal dataset that include clinical, imaging, genetic, and biofluid data. This position is primarily involved in collecting experimental conversational digital speech data from patients, coordinates with other research coordinators within the FTD Center collecting standardized speech data, is responsible for maintaining study essential documents, including but not limited to informed consent (if applicable), patient enrollment log, digital speech data tracking, transfer, manual validation, transcription, processing, storage, preliminary statistical analyses, and administrative coordination. Assists with inquiries, research progress reports for Institutional Review Board (IRB) modifications, continuing reviews, data and material transfer agreement. Works closely with the Principal Investigator, manager, and study team to identify problems and develop solutions. Implement approved changes to procedures as needed and monitor results. Responsible for study coordination for investigator initiated studies, multi-center research studies, and patient-oriented clinical and translational research projects.

Qualifications
Requires a BS/BA degree in linguistics, psychology, neuroscience or a related discipline and 1-2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and expereince required. Past research working in a similar lab setting is highly desirable. Experience managing data repositories, performing statistical analyses, and/or administering neurolinguistic tests is preferred. The candidate must be able to work independently and have strong organizational and interpersonal skills. A two-year commitment is preferred. Position is contingent upon funding. Background check is required.
