Catawba College invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the Ketner School of Business. The College seeks a transformational leader to build upon the School’s strong foundation of academic programming and record of student outcomes to shape the future of a holistic business education.

 

Ketner School of Business Mission

The mission of the business school is to prepare students for successful personal and professional careers by blending a strong foundation in the liberal arts with the highest quality undergraduate and graduate business education. We achieve our mission in an environment characterized by personal attention and experiential learning using innovative teaching techniques with the latest technology. We strive to develop our students to become business and professional leaders with a unique combination of academic excellence, individual creativity, and moral character.

 

The Position of Dean

Responsibilities

The Dean, who reports to the Provost, is responsible for the overall academic, administrative, and fiscal leadership of the Ketner School of Business. The Dean should provide thoughtful and engaged leadership to the School and campus and actively seek and develop cross-campus relationships. The Dean must be committed to an education that blends the skills, attitudes, and competencies developed through a liberal arts education with career preparation. The Dean should model excellence in teaching, scholarship that involves students as co-participants, and service, and promote high expectations and accountability across the Ketner School.

 

Opportunities

Align and amplify internal and external messaging of the Ketner School of Business and champion the School and Catawba as a community that helps students reach their vocational goals.

 

Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to define and implement the strategic priorities that lead to growth of enrollment through curriculum development (undergraduate, graduate, and certificate) and retention in the Ketner School of Business.

 

Develop, maintain, and strengthen strategic relationships with alumni, benefactors, local community, and industry.

 

Leverage key industry relationships to develop experiential/real world learning opportunities for Ketner School students, including special projects, micro-internships, and traditional internships.

 

By leveraging the geographic location of Catawba and proximity to Charlotte, Raleigh, and the Piedmont Triad, enhance the visibility, brand, partnerships, and reputation of the School, locally, regionally, and nationally.

 

Qualifications

The Ketner School of Business is seeking a dynamic leader who brings enthusiasm for the role and an understanding of the convergent disciplines that fuel the School’s identity. The Dean must show evidence of successful leadership, exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, creativity and adaptability, and a proven record in an administrative position with responsibility for developing and guiding strategy, motivating and leading a team, engaging external constituencies, and fostering diversity.

 

Specific qualifications include:

  • exemplary academic or professional qualifications in one of the disciplines in the School of Business, an earned advanced degree and a record of outstanding academic or professional achievement;
  • effective communication and public relation skills with the ability to forge productive links with external constituencies, including industry and community partners;
  • a record of promoting diversity and a commitment to furthering a culturally aware and inclusive environment;
  • demonstrated budget and fiscal management experience;
  • evidence of strategic planning leadership and the ability to effectively implement strategic plans;
  • an appreciation for the mission and values of the College;
  • ability to raise financial resources and build the financial infrastructure of the School;
  • an understanding of the role of technology as it impacts and enhances communication, teaching, learning, and careers for students; and
  • a strong commitment to community engagement for the purpose of linking students and faculty with community, regional and global leaders who know, understand and support the Ketner School of Business.

 

The Ketner School of Business

The Ralph W. Ketner School of Business, housed in the newly renovated and centrally located Ketner Hall, consists of The Department of Business & Economics, The Department of Communication, The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, and The Center for Entrepreneurship and Experiential Development.

 

The Ketner School of Business offers the following undergraduate programs: B.A. Degree in Accounting, B.S. Degree in Business Administration, B.A. Degree in Communication, B.S. Degree in Computer Science, B.A. Degree in Digital Media Production, B.A. Degree in Economics & Finance, B.S. Degree in Information Systems and Technology, B.S. Degree in Integrated Marketing Communication, B.S. Degree in Mathematical Finance, and a B.A. and B.S. Degree in Mathematics. In addition, the Ketner School offers the MBA degree.

 

Students must choose a concentration from Accounting, Communication, Economics, Entrepreneurship, General Management, Information Systems, International Business or Marketing in the BS - Business Administration Major. Students may also choose a concentration in Sport Communication if majoring in Communication. The School also offers a Bachelor's in Business Administration in the Distance and Online Education Program with concentrations in Business Management, Information Systems and Professional Accounting

 

As a transdisciplinary School, the Ketner School of Business supports degrees in Sport Management, Music Business and Theater Arts Administration, Environment and Sustainability, as well as the Honors Program and the First-Year Experience at Catawba.

About Catawba College

Founded in 1851 in Newton, NC, Catawba College was started by German pioneers who had traveled from eastern Pennsylvania to settle in the valleys of the Haw, Yadkin, and Catawba Rivers. In 1890, Catawba became a coeducational institution and the first woman graduate completed her studies in 1893. In 1925, Catawba moved and re-opened to its current location in Salisbury, NC, which is about 45 minutes from Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and Charlotte, two hours from the mountains, and four hours from the beaches.

 

Today, Catawba College has 41 buildings on 276 wooded acres on a residential campus. Catawba is known for its 189 acre on-campus ecological preserve. Ranked as one of the best colleges in the south, Catawba offers 70 academic majors to approximately 1,300 students representing 34 U.S. states and 19 foreign countries. Students are instructed by 80 full-time faculty, more than 83% of whom hold the highest degree in their field.
