GRAND VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY – OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH DEPARTMENT 

The Occupational Safety and Health Department within Grand Valley State University’s Seymour and Esther Padnos College of Engineering and Computing invites applications for an Affiliate Faculty position; at GVSU, an Affiliate Faculty position is a full-time teaching position that is renewable every one to three years. This position will support the Occupational Safety and Health Management (OSHM) program with emphasis on internship development and student internship supervision, laboratory development and supervision, and instruction of courses in the program. The start date is fall 2021

 

The position will foster the continued growth and development of the OSHM program for the maintenance of ABET accreditation.  This program yields job-ready, as well as graduate-school ready, graduates in support of the diversified regional industries.   

 

The OSHM program is supported by its own laboratory in the Eberhard Center in downtown Grand Rapids as well as by access to the industrial-grade engineering laboratories.

 

A Bachelor’s degree in OSH or a closely related discipline and five years of experience in the OSH profession is required. A certification in OSH or closely related field or the ability to obtain such certification within one year is required.  Of specific interest is the ability to support OSHM internships through industry interaction and student supervision as well as development and supervision of laboratory activities.  A master’s degree and demonstrated ability to effectively teach courses in the OSHM major is preferred.

 

All candidates must be committed to the highest quality of laboratory and project-based teaching, with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Preference will be given to candidates who also possess OSH-related industrial and/or project-based experience. An interest in curriculum development is desired. An ability to participate in and capitalize upon existing collaborations with our West Michigan industrial partners is highly valued.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for the OSHM internship program as well as the OSHM laboratory. The position involves teaching courses in the OSHM major as well as course development. The successful applicant will support industrial collaborations and programs to meet the needs of industry.
