The American University of Sharjah (AUS), an independent, coeducational, non-profit institution, seeks a Chancellor. Founded in 1997 on an American model integrating liberal arts and professional programs, the university is acclaimed for its academic excellence and multicultural environment. The QS Higher Education World University Rankings includes AUS among the world’s top 50 universities under fifty years old. AUS is governed by an independent international board of distinguished academic, business, and government leaders.

Sharjah, population 1.5 million, is the third largest of the seven emirates and the cultural capital of the nation. Located in Sharjah’s beautiful University City 45 minutes from world-famous Dubai, AUS’s modern campus is replete with indoor and outdoor sports facilities, cafes, restaurants, and commercial services.

AUS hosts a student body of more than 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students of 95 nationalities, 50% of whom are female. AUS is accredited in the UAE by the Ministry of Education and in the United States by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education; professional programs are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International), the Engineering Accreditation Commission and Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, and the United States National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). Campus videos and additional information are available at www.aus.edu.

Candidate qualifications include an earned doctorate or terminal degree, significant administrative and academic experience at the dean level or above at an institution based on the American model, and fluency in English. International experience is a plus. Compensation and benefits are competitive. There are no local taxes; citizens of countries that tax world-wide income, such as the US, may qualify for favorable tax treatment. The position is available beginning summer 2021.
