R0002508 – Visiting Assistant Professor – RWA

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock, William H. Bowen School of Law (“Bowen”) seeks applicants for a Visiting Assistant Professor – RWA (R0002508) (VAP).  The purpose of the position is to recruit and mentor emerging law professors interested in racial justice scholarship.  We are particularly focused on future scholars interested in exploring the intersection of race and access to justice, economics, education, environmental law, health, housing, sexuality, voting rights, or other drivers of racial disparities.  Bowen is in the process of developing a center focused on criminal justice reform and racial justice.  The VAP will be affiliated with the new center but will not have administrative duties.  Bowen faculty will be active in mentoring the VAP in the areas of teaching and scholarship.   This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.

We encourage applications from entry-level candidates planning to enter the legal education market, practitioners interested in transitioning to the legal academy, and recent law graduates.  The VAP is a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position.  The VAP will teach two sections of first-year Research, Writing & Analysis, which is a six-credit, two-semester course sequence. The position is available beginning in August 2021.  The VAP will be offered a one-year contract, with the expectation of renewal for a second year based on performance.

Little Rock is the capital city and largest metropolitan area in Arkansas, boasting extremely affordable housing, cultural attractions, and close proximity to extensive recreational areas. The Bowen School of Law is located in revitalized downtown Little Rock, less than two miles from the state capitol, federal, state, and county courthouses, the largest law firms in the state, and the Clinton Presidential Library. Minimum qualifications: A Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and strong writing and interpersonal skills.

Preferred qualifications: Outstanding academic credentials, law review experience, judicial clerkship experience, and moot court service.
